Chain Work Overview
Chain Work Overview-The reactive/contrast method for squats using chains. Chains can be used on max effort day as well as dynamic day. Main goal for using chains is building explosive power through contrast work. For example, the weight is contrastingly heavier when ascending than it is through descending. The chains help build lockout and build acceleration.

Bench Press: Dynamic Day with Chains

Again the chains are in a different configuration for the bench press than for the squat and dead lift. Whats important here is that the chains be configured so that when the barbell is on your chest, the chains are all deloaded on the ground.
This movement is to accommodate resistance through to the lockout of the lift.
For a 300lb and under bench presser, one chain on each side should be used-40 lbs of chain total. For a 450lb bencher up to 2 sets of chain. 600lb range, 3 sets of chain. Chain should be waved in and out.

Squat: Dynamic Day with Chains

Chains should be attached via a small quarter inch chain. Larger 5/8 inch chain should be looped through the smaller chain. This is so you can adjust the length of the chain accordingly.
When fully extended-with the bar on your back-the chain should be slightly touching the ground. This is to help stability with the chain/weight. Adjust using the smaller chain to get the right height.
The basic principle of using the chains is to accommodate resistance when standing back up. As the chains raises off the ground, the weight gets heavier. For example, the top quarte... Westside Barbell System - Reactive\Contrast Method

Dead lift: Dynamic Day with Chains

Chains are put on differently than with squats. The chains are lopped over the barbell (without the smaller chain) This is due to the nature of the lift, the smaller chain is not needed.
The chains should come completely off the ground when dead lifting.
