8:00 am - got a good sleep on at Holiday In, right outside Columbus Ohio. Had a great spinach wrap for breakfast from Maggie's, and some nice ginger cookies. YUM!
Going to head out around 10:00 am again for another 500 miles trek to St. Louis Missouri.
Its a little cloudy, but should be good as my left arm is sunburned from being on the window during the entire drive.
10:00 am - Heading out of the Holiday Inn at 701 E Hudson St Columbus, OH 43211. Its raining here, but i am hoping i can drive out of the weather. It will be a slower go, but i should still be able to average 70mph, because of all the extra weight in the car(will keep the tires from slipping off the road
)
2:42 pm - ripped right through Ohio, Indiana and am now in Illinois. Same old landscape, a few farms and lots of woods. The speed limit is 70mph so i seem to be making good time.
Just stopped at a rest area to take a break, its really nice out now. The rain cleared up and the sky is blue.
7:25 pm - Central standard time, so clocks are back 1 hour. Made it to St. Louis Missouri in about 9 hours.
Stopped in at the Confluence Point State Park:
In 1804, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark began their journey up the Missouri River at the confluence of the two great rivers of North America, the Missouri and Mississippi. Today, visitors can watch as the Big Muddy and Mighty Mississippi merge into one at Edward "Ted" and Pat Jones - Confluence Point State Park.
The role that both rivers played in the Lewis and Clark Expedition and the history of the rivers are interpreted at the park in outdoor exhibits. A short interpretive trail takes visitors to the confluence point.
Restoration of a natural floodplain, which will emphasize native vegetation and natural wetlands suitable for the site's current soil, topography and hydrology, is planned for the 1,118-acre park. This will include forests, prairies and marshes with abundant opportunity to preserve native plants.
The confluence point also provides an excellent place for bird watching as millions of birds migrate along the Mississippi River corridor each spring and fall, while others reside in the area. Visitors to the park can relax and enjoy the many species of songbirds, shore birds, wading birds, waterfowl and raptors as they watch the rivers flow by.
This park was really cool. Great spot for bicycle riding.
Otherwise, there wasn't many attractions on the stretch of road i just flew through. The Mississippi river was very cool in driving over, also very dirty!
Had to make a pit stop at the auto parts store, as the local ghettos were starting to worry me. I purchased The Club to help scare off vandals from jacking my car at night. I also had to do some work on my car, as the catalytic converter heat displacement cover was rattling around like a rats tail in a flower barrel. I purchased a pair of pliers and yanked the cover off. The local ghetto members were watching me in bewilderment.
St. Louis (at least the section i was in) wasn't an area i felt safe in staying, so i drove out to St. Charles and setup shop at the Hampton Inn.
Now looking for a nice place to eat. I ate up the last surpluses from Maggie's. The soy (tuna fish sandwich tasting) wrap was off the hook.
A side note: unsalted sunflower seeds are very hard to find.
