Grand Canyon

6:00 am - Woke up early to do some hiking down the Grand Canyon trails. The main trail to the Colorado river was 24 miles round trip, and there was warnings everywhere not to do it in one day.

So i decided to do a quick 6 miles hike down to the first stop on the trail. The hike down was really quick, and offered some fabulous views. As you went down, you got deeper and deeper into the Canyon, and you wondered if you would be able to get back up!

I met Tom from Queens, and talked to him for a few minutes at the stop. He hiked all the way to the river, camped out, and was on his way back up. I envied him, because i wanted to do a full fledged hike and camp out. Oh well, maybe next time!

The trip on the way back up was not that bad. I did the entire journey in 3 hours, 1.5 hours down and 1.5 hours back up. As i am sitting here today typing this, i am really sore!

I checked out of the Canyon at just the right time. There was a huge fire burning in the woods next to the canyon, so it was good to get out of there asap.

The next stretch of driving was very difficult. It was through the Mojahve desert, which was super hot. The sun was sucking the energy out of me, and it was hard to concentrate on the road, as my legs were sore from the hike.

I was considering doing the Death Valley park, but learned that you really need to be prepared to go there, and hike through the desert. So i passed that, and continued on to Barstow.

Stayed at my favorite hotel, the Holiday Inn Express.
