Sunday Day 7
Sunday Day 7-6:30 am - Finally made it to Cali, and am very sad that my trip is coming to an end. It was wonderful, and well worth it!
Its a beautiful day out here today, and am looking forward to hitting my new home in San Luis Obispo.

I wont be taking that exact route, but it will give you an idea of where i am heading. I will be going through Bakersfield, and some nice mountain ranges.
3:00 pm - Made it to the beach! San Luis Obispo, finally in my new home .
The drive through the mountain range was breath taking! I would say it was the best drive of my life. The hills were so vividly colorful and live. Before you get on route 166, theres a sign that says: Drive carefully, your life depends on it. Reason being: your so caught up with the view, that you lose track of the road, and could swerve off.
I am anxious to get up in there and hike them hills! My apartment is located right near a state beach, so i get a nice variety of people on the be... Barstow, CA

Saturday Day 6
Saturday Day 6-6:00 am - Woke up early to do some hiking down the Grand Canyon trails. The main trail to the Colorado river was 24 miles round trip, and there was warnings everywhere not to do it in one day.
So i decided to do a quick 6 miles hike down to the first stop on the trail. The hike down was really quick, and offered some fabulous views. As you went down, you got deeper and deeper into the Canyon, and you wondered if you would be able to get back up!
I met Tom from Queens, and talked to him for a few minutes at the stop. He hiked all the way to the river, camped out, and was on his way back up. I envied him, because i wanted to do a full fledged hike and camp out. Oh well, maybe next time!
The trip on the way back up was not that bad. I did the entire journey in 3 hours, 1.5 hours down and 1.5 hours back up. As i am sitting here today typing this, i am really sore!
I checked out of the Canyon at just the right time. There was a huge fire burning in the woods next to th... Grand Canyon

Friday Day 5
Friday Day 5-7:30 am - its finally a beautiful morning! Sunny skies and warm temperatures. I had a great sleep in a quality hotel, and am going to head out to see some Indian ruins. Gallup The Heart of Native American Indian Country.
Looking up the grand canyon, and it seems it is very dangerous to hike there during the summer. Will have to bring a few gallons of water.
View Map from Gallup, NM to Grand Canyon, AZ
8:51 pm – wow. Sorry for the delayed post, didn’t have any internet access in Grand Canyon region. Today was one of the most breath taking days of my life. Words, pictures or explanation can not describe the power of the vistas I saw today. I’ve hiked many mountains, and been to many beautiful places, but the Grand Canyon takes first- it is absolutely spectacular.

But let me back up. On my way to the Grand Canyon (BTW-thanks to Dick for being my virtual co-pilot for the whole trip, and getting me the directions to the Canyon) I decided... Gallup, New Mexico

Thursday Day 4
Thursday Day 4-9:30 am - had a late start because i went to the local YMCA and did some lifting. It was pouring rain and hail last night, so its very wet and cloudy today.
Supposedly there was flash flooding all over the state, and an actual death in Missouri. The weather channel said there might be tornados in Texas! Hope i can out run them .
I have a feeling its going to clear up and turn out to be a beautiful day again.
The next stop is Albuquerque, New Mexico and its 537 miles away-on the same road.
9:34 pm - Wow, what a long day. Click here to view the map of todays journey! By far the most beautiful and desolate state i have passed through yet. The terrain was flat in Texas, then changed to layers of rocks when i reached New Mexico. As i passed through the beautiful vistas, i couldnt help but notice the lack of industry or business. The towns thrived on the thru traffic.
The road never seemed to end, it kept stretching on into the distance. When i got close to Albuquerqu... Outside Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Wednesday Day 3
Wednesday Day 3-4:59 am - got a call from my buddy Dirk early in the morning (i was still sleeping ) he was on the road driving from Virginia to NY, but hes one hour ahead so it was closer to 6:00 am his time.
But the beds are so comfortable in the Hampton inn, i went right back to sleep.
7:39 am - going to get some breakfast then head out to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Its about 450 miles, mostly on one road, so i will gas up in St. Charles here.
Little cloudy out again.
8:52 pm - The ride from St. Louis to Oklahoma city was uneventful. I stopped in between the two cities and got some food from a nice vegetarian deli. They had some very tasty sandwiches.
The sped limit in Oklahoma is 75mph in many areas, so i was making very good time.
The landscape in Oklahoma is really beautiful. Clear plains stretched farther than the eye can see. I stopped at a picnic area (the only one on the interstate) and it was in a wooded hole, so you couldnt see any of the plains . Dont know why they... St. Louis Missouri

Tuesday Day 2
Tuesday Day 2-8:00 am - got a good sleep on at Holiday In, right outside Columbus Ohio. Had a great spinach wrap for breakfast from Maggies, and some nice ginger cookies. YUM!
Going to head out around 10:00 am again for another 500 miles trek to St. Louis Missouri.
Its a little cloudy, but should be good as my left arm is sunburned from being on the window during the entire drive.
10:00 am - Heading out of the Holiday Inn at 701 E Hudson St Columbus, OH 43211. Its raining here, but i am hoping i can drive out of the weather. It will be a slower go, but i should still be able to average 70mph, because of all the extra weight in the car(will keep the tires from slipping off the road )
2:42 pm - ripped right through Ohio, Indiana and am now in Illinois. Same old landscape, a few farms and lots of woods. The speed limit is 70mph so i seem to be making good time.
Just stopped at a rest area to take a break, its really nice out now. The rain cleared up and the sky is blue.

Monday Day 1
Monday Day 1-9:00am - Started off to a good start. it is a beautiful day today on long island, and was even able to get my photo inspection for my car! So now i have all the roadside assistance options from my insurance company.
Weather is real nice in PA as well. Driving 151 miles on i-76 w, was behind a tractor trailer who was cruising about 80mph. The first gas stop was about 362 miles in. So i am averaging about 28 miles to the gallon!
Thats it for now, saw a billboard with a vegetarian deli on it, so am looking for that.
5:30 pm - Found Maggies Mercantile - At Maggies Mercantile, you always know that your food is as organic and fresh as if it were still on the farm instead of on your plate. Our raw vegan and vegetarian dishes contain no artificial preservatives or animal byproducts. From vegetable rich entrées to soy-based desserts, our foods help you enjoy natures wonderful bounty in its peak form: raw, wild, and organic!
